12-15/12/2016
Intensive course aimed at students and researchers interested in the fundamentals and essential practical applications of the sampling, counting and measuring of three-dimensional structures from two-dimensional images. It presents basic concepts of morphometry and stereology, and their application to Histology and Neurobiology. The course addresses issues of particular practical interest, such as the principle of Cavalieri, the fractionator, the disector, the nucleator, the rotator, and various estimators of length and surface. Special attention is given to good preparation of the sampling designs, and custom implementation for students in practical exercises. A demonstration is performed using a computerized commercial system for stereological applications.
The course will be directed by Drs. Carlos Avendaño and Luis Santamaria, Full Professors at the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Neuroscience of the Autonoma University of Madrid. Lectures will be imparted in Spanish, although English can be freely used for discussions and Q/A.
The deadline for receipt of these applications was October 31, 2016.
