The donation of the body to the Faculty of Medicine of the UAM is an altruistic and supportive act that effectively helps improve the quality of healthcare for the benefit of everyone.

Thanks to the generosity of Donor individuals, thousands of students at our Faculty thoroughly learn Human Anatomy. In addition, hundreds of practicing doctors, surgeons, nurses, and physiotherapists learn and practice new techniques without any risk to patients.

Any adult residing in the Community of Madrid can register in the Donor Program by requesting that a form be sent to them.

The Program guarantees anonymity and the utmost respect in the use of the bodies we receive. For this reason, they are never transferred to other centers, and families always know where the donated body is located.

At the appropriate time, usually after a few years and once the dissection studies have been completed, the anatomical remains are cremated collectively and anonymously in a crematorium. It is therefore not possible to recover the ashes.

However, at the time the body is delivered, the relative who signs the documentation may indicate whether they wish to have the body returned when its use at the Faculty ends, and then arrange a burial or cremation at their own expense. This request must be made in writing and include their contact information. When the time comes, the Faculty will return the body without cremation, and transportation from the Faculty and the corresponding funeral services will be the responsibility of that person.

The 24-hour assistance and transport in an approved vehicle of the bodies donated to our Faculty are handled exclusively by the company Funeraria Madrid San José, S.L. (28607 El Álamo, Madrid).

Its staff always present proper identification and also handle the corresponding legal procedures before the Court and Civil Registry.

After the death, relatives must NOT notify another funeral company. In any case, they must not allow another funeral home to take charge of the transport and, especially, they must avoid signing any new document of donation or transfer of the body for scientific purposes. Even if they are told it is to transfer it to the UAM, such a document could authorize that funeral home to freely move or transfer the body or its parts to any other national or foreign research institution. In such a case, the UAM will decline all responsibility.
